Laboratory Requirements
For admission to a Regents examination in science, a student must complete the State-mandated Laboratory requirement. The laboratory component must be provided in addition to the required classroom instruction associated with earning a unit of credit and must include 1200 minutes of hands-on laboratory with satisfactory laboratory reports. Laboratory reports must be kept on file for at least six months after the student takes a Regents examination in science.
Please note: As per Section 809 subdivision 4 of the education law:
Certain laboratory science classes may involve the dissection of preserved animal specimen. Students and parents/guardians will be advised well in advance if this form of laboratory work is included in the course where the student is enrolled. Any student with a moral or religious objection to participating or witnessing an animal dissection, substantiated in writing by a parent or legal guardian, shall be provided with an approved alternative project.
