Summer Reading and Assignments

The Social Studies department requires the completion of a summer assignment for 2 of our Advanced Placement courses. We believe these readings and assignments introduce students to the level of reading they will encounter during the school year and prepare students for success in these rigorous classes.

The following courses have Summer Reading and related assignments:

  • Social Studies 9 Advanced World History (grade 9)
  • AP World History: Modern (grade 10)

Students who are enrolled in the above courses for the 2023-2024 school year are required to complete the summer work.  Please note that there is no summer assignment for the following courses; AP Human Geography, AP United States History (grade 11), AP Economics (grade 12) and AP Government (grade 12) this year.  All summer assignments and related detailed information are posted at the top of this page.

If you have any questions about Social Studies summer reading please contact Margaret Ronai,District Coordinator, Social Studies  at 267-7576 or via email at Margaret_Ronai@manhassetschools.org

We encourage our students to continue developing the habits of good readers and to include reading as a part of their academic and leisure activities.  To this end, below is a list of suggested titles for summer reading.  These are not required but merely a suggestion for interested students. Thank you for support of the summer reading program.
